Original Ol'Skool Music...
My name is Jason McKell, I create what I call "Original Ol'Skool" Music around here...
I love Ol'skool Acoustic Blues.. the real old time guys... I think those guys (and gals) were a cut above and still are. They are 100% my inspiration for writing and playing my music.
Potentially I'd love to inspire some younger players to listen to those amazing musicians.
I don't care what people play but I just think that what gets called "Blues" these days is so wide that it rarely represents the Ol'Skool guys at all.. for that reason I call my music what I do..
When I first heard Elmore James I was maybe 18.. it blew my hair back..(I had hair then).. I was into Metal mostly and that one particular track (Baby Goodbye) changed my musical ears forever. If young people can hear THAT.. they'll dig the Blues too.
I can't imagine me doing that to the level I would like... BUT I do get it and I work my arse off to write and play the best most authentic Ol'Skool tunes I can..
Taj Mahal once said in an interview that you should be asking yourself..
"Would the great musicians that came before you... be proud of the Music that you're playing"
I really think like that.. think about it when I write... think bout it when I play..
Bottom line is.. raw earthiness and authenticity is what people have always found universally appealing about old Blues.. it's what's missing in a lot of the cornball music that you hear getting named 'Blues" these days..
I keep it simple.. I write songs from my life.. I currently live in a Van so there's always something going on.. something to write about.
If your looking for something new in Ol'Skool Blues hopefully you dig my music.. follow me on Instagram if you want the latest goings on.. I'm not big on social media particularly but that one gets updated regularly.
I'm happy you've dropped by my website for a look and if you have any questions please email me at
